Hypnotherapy Near Me

Hypnotherapy near me is all about you finding the right hypnotherapist that makes a lasting change for you.

So, if you've been searching for "hypnotherapy near me", you're probably looking for a practical solution to a problem that's affecting your daily life.

Whether you're struggling with anxiety, stress, confidence issues, unwanted habits, fears, or sleep difficulties, hypnotherapy can provide a gentle (that’s why I call myself The Gentle Mind’ ) and effective way to create positive change.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation and focused attention to help access the subconscious mind. Contrary to popular myths, you remain aware and in control throughout the process. A qualified hypnotherapist works with you to identify unhelpful thought patterns and replace them with healthier responses.

Why choose a local hypnotherapist?

When you search hypnotherapy near men there are several advantages:

  • It’s easier access to face-to-face appointments. And all my work is face-to-face. It’s where we can form a real bond - and it saves on sessions.
  • The opportunity to build a trusting therapeutic relationship because I’m close by. It’s less hassle from travel time.
  • It’s support from someone who understands living in the Leeds, York and Harrogate areas.

What can hypnotherapy help you with?

People often seek hypnotherapy for:

That’s just top line. Your experience is unique, so treatment plans are tailored to individual needs. For example, you maybe smoking because you’re stressed. Or your public speaking fear is down to a lack of confidence - you know your stuff, you just get the jitters delivering your content.

It’s a mix of the above list.

What happens during a hypnotherapy session?

Initially we need to scope out your goals and the challenges you're experiencing.

To save time and money on sessions if you write a Thought Diary before hand that often helps us go ‘deeper’ quicker.

I’ll explain the process, answer any questions, and guide you into a deeply relaxed state where therapeutic suggestions can be introduced.

The process is basically you relaxing deeply so I can ‘talk’ to your subconscious and change the message you tell yourself for the better.

The ‘therapeutic suggestion’ means me talking to you in such a way that let’s you be a kinder version of yourself. Less stressed, worried, anxious, or scared, for example.

Think of it as being like a software update and we’re installing You 2.0

How does hypnosis feel? It’s different for everyone, but most clients describe the experience as calming, reassuring and empowering.

You’re not in a trance, you can hear my words and you’re aware of your surroundings - you’re just choosing to relax.

It’s actually different for everyone every time. It’s hard to nail down the exact feeling, but it’s a combination of these experiences:

  • Deep relaxation. Your body may feel heavy, warm, or comfortable, similar to the feeling of settling into bed after a long day.
  • Focused attention. Your awareness narrows onto the my voice, your breathing, an image, or a task. Background distractions often fall away.
  • Absorption. You can become very engaged in what you're imagining or experiencing, much like being engrossed in a novel, a film, or daydreaming.
  • Altered sense of time. Sessions may seem shorter or longer than they actually were.
  • Reduced urge to analyse. Some people describe "going with the flow" rather than constantly evaluating everything.
  • Changes in sensation or perception. Under hypnosis, some people notice that suggestions feel more vivid—for example, imagining an arm becoming lighter or heavier, or experiencing reduced discomfort during a medical procedure.

What hypnosis DOESN'T feel like:

  • Being unconscious or asleep.
  • Being mind-controlled (that’s Hollywood).
  • Being unable to hear what's happening around you.
  • Losing all memory of the session.
  • Being forced to do things that go against your values.

In fact, you may be surprised by how normal you feel. Clients often think, "Was I even hypnotised?" because they remember everything and feel aware throughout the process.

There's also a lot of variation.

Some people experience dramatic sensations, while others simply feel calm and focused. Research suggests that people differ in their responsiveness to hypnotic suggestions, a trait sometimes called hypnotic susceptibility. Some are highly responsive, most fall somewhere in the middle, and a smaller group experience only mild effects.

A useful comparison is this. Hypnosis often feels less like "someone taking over your mind" and more like the state you're in when you're driving a familiar route and suddenly realise you've been on autopilot for the last few miles, or when you're so immersed in a book that you briefly forget your surroundings.

How to choose the best hypnotherapist near you

At the core the best hypnotherapist near you is the one you form the deepest bond with: belief in most.

When looking for a local hypnotherapist, consider:

  • Professional training and qualifications.
  • Membership of recognised professional organisations.
  • Experience treating your specific concern.
  • Reviews and testimonials.
  • Whether you feel comfortable speaking with them.

What got me to be a hypnotherapist?

During my late 40s and early 50s I wasted too much time. I over ate and drank way too much. I stopped. Realised I was wasting my time. I saw a hypnotherapist, turned myself around. I ran eight marathons, did 3 Iron Man events, climbed Mont Blanc, took up rowing and the piano - don’t ask for a tune.
