PTSD

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is something that up to one in ten of us suffer from at some time in our lives. It can be from a recent event or something deep-rooted in your past.

PTSD can be a result of your profession: serving in the emergency services like fire-fighting, or time in the armed forces on active service.

Alternatively, PTSD can be brought on by an event in anyone’s life – seeing a loved one die, surviving a car crash, or being assaulted. Or, PTSD may be the result of a deep-seated event from childhood. Something you are still coming to terms with, or raises its head from time to time and still causes acute distress.

Whatever has happened you now feel extreme fear, horror, or helplessness and it affects your life: in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning like relationships.

How we can help

Using CBT and hypnotherapy we can change the way you think, feel, and act about what has happened to you.

A typical plan would look something like this:

  • Together we can look at the evidence. The real harm to your health. The inconvenience to your life. How PTSD is stopping you do what you want to.
  • Let’s help you recognise the places and feelings that could bring on a panic attack.
  • Write a diary of how you think, feel, and act between sessions. We can use this as the basis of our sessions when we meet again.
  • Teach you how to reframe what’s happened to you. How to take control and feel in control have a sense of perspective.
  • You’re hypnotised in the sessions, so learn how to use self-hypnosis on your own. This helps you relax and builds confidence.
  • Build your self-belief.
