What do most people use hypnotherapy for?

What do most people use hypnotherapy for? My answer is based on what most clients come to see me for.

Smoking Cessation. Hypnotherapy to stop you smoking and vaping can work in a couple of sessions. It can get to the subconscious to quickly alter your subconscious and change the associations you have with the habit.
I used the word ‘can’. You might be smoking or vaping for a deeper reason - work is going badly, or your relationship isn’t working, for example. Then, once the underlying reason is dealt with the need to smoke can more easily fall by the wayside.

Weight Loss and Eating Habits. This can range from overeating and you don’t know why, comfort eating, or not eating enough.
You and me are looking for the ‘Why?’. But if we can’t find it, that’s ok. We can still change you habits for the better.

Anxiety and Stress Reduction. Modern living, the pressure of earning, social media, relationships, the legacy of past events, our loss of belief in ourselves. You carry so many things. And you don’t have to. In this instance, ‘What do most people use hypnotherapy for?’ The answer is simple: you are not your thoughts, feelings, actions, or memories. Hypnotherapy can help you let go, or at least dial them all down so they don’t control you.

Phobias and Fears. These are the main ones I treat:
The fear of heights (acrophobia). This affects 23% of Britons, according to a YouGov RealTime survey.
The fear of spiders (arachnophobia) affecting 21% of Britons.
The fear of public speaking (glossophobia) affecting 15% of Britons.
The fear of snakes (ophidiophobia)
The fear of enclosed spaces (claustrophobia).
The fear of going to the dentist (dentophobia)
The fear of flying (aerophobia)
The fear of needles (trypanophobia)
The fear of clowns (coulrophobia).
The fear of dogs (cynophobia)
The fear of vomit (emetophobia).

On the whole fears and phobias tend to be irrational. Hypnotherapy lets you calmly see your phobia or fear for what it is. A thought. It doesn’t have to bother you.

Sleep Disorders. In answering the question, What do most people use hypnotherapy for? The answer is modern living. And nowhere is this more apparent that the nations lack of sleep.

We go to bed too late. And then scroll. It’s doesn’t help.

There’s also the anxieties and stresses we take to bed with us. Are we earning enough? Are we getting ahead? Comparing ourselves to others.

We can work on all the above as well as looking at improving sleep quality, restless leg syndrome or night terrors.

Pain Management. Hypnotherapy can help with various types of pain.
Physical causes such as injuries after an operation or a sports injury (to help you get back to your competitive level), after cancer.
We can also look at the psychological factors like stress and anxiety. Especially where you believe you’l’ never be better or get your health back.
It can be effective for chronic pain conditions too like fibromyalgia and migraines - and even during childbirth (hypnobirthing).
I’ve also had success in helping clients with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).

Self-Confidence and Motivation. This can be when you’re ‘down in the dumps’, not sure where it’s come from, or you definitely know where its come from:
. You’re being bullied
. You’re in a relationship with a narcissist
. You feel you’ve never been good enough
. You’re a sports person who’s lost your form
. Someone put you down - partner, teacher, parent - and you feel you’ve never recovered.

Trauma and PTSD. Hypnotherapy can help you reframe traumatic memories.
In effect hypnotherapy is a way of saying to yourself, “It’s ok. I’m safe now”. And not just saying, believing. Understand that whatever has happened is in the past and getting further and further away with each passing day.
This helps reduce the nightmares, flashbacks, hyper-vigilance, or avoidance.

Addictions. I’ve written about this here. I can be a big part of your support team that helps you stop taking cocaine, ketamine, cannabis or gambling.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). There's strong clinical evidence supporting hypnotherapy's effectiveness in managing IBS symptoms. I’ve helped people overcome the following:
Afraid to go on holiday because they will be on a coach for too long, don’t know when the next toilet break is or closest toilet
Afraid to go shopping
Scared to try new foods
You feel there’s a link to your menstrual cycle.

Does the NHS recommend hypnotherapy?

Simple answer, yes. Although the NHS does not typically fund it.

What is the success rate of hypnotherapy?

The figure I like most (naturally) is that hypnotherapy has a reported success rate of 93%, and it often requires fewer sessions than other types of therapy.

What do psychologists think of hypnotherapy?

Over the past several decades, psychologists and other researchers have learned more about how hypnosis actually works and found evidence that it can be used to treat pain, anxiety and a range of physical and mental health problems.

In other words they’re on my side.

What exactly is hypnotherapy?

It’s simply a state of relaxation. It’s when you agree to be calm and ‘lower’ your barriers to your subconscious, so we can work on changing your thoughts, feelings and actions for the better.

Think of it like a software upgrade to 2.0 of you. We take out the glitches.
