The Gentle Mind

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy and Taylor Swift

I’m a big fan of Ryan Holiday. He has a website called Daily Stoic, a TikTok presence, and writes books and lectures about Stoicism.

Hear me out, please. This isn’t me piggybacking on Taylor’s fame, merely showing you how, whatever the obstacle that’s put in your way, you can recover. It’s just a state of mind.

I’ll start at the beginning.

Stoicism is a branch of philosophy. It teaches you the development of self-control to overcome emotions that would otherwise be self-destructive.

You become a clear and unbiased thinker. You reason with yourself.

One of the major figures in Stoicism was Marcus Aurelius. Most people know him from ‘Gladiator’, played by Richard Harris.

And if you watch Ryan Holiday’s film here. You’ll see what I mean and how Taylor Swift is a fine example of Stoicism.

So that’s the philosophy. Now fast forward 2,000 years and that philosophy is the basis of the therapy and neuroscience behind Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. And my take on it; Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy.

From Taylor Swift to The Gentle Mind

In the film, you’ll see how Swift has overcome the obstacles in her career.

Most notably what happened after Scooter Braun bought her entire musical back catalogue.

Think about it. Your entire life’s work suddenly belongs to someone else. You have no control over everything you’ve professionally ever done.

So where do you go from here?

You think your way out of it.

And the best way to do that is calmly.

That’s why I’m called The Gentle Mind. You’re kinder and make better decisions about yourself when you think calmly.

That’s what Marcus Aurelius did. And Taylor Swift.

Now, over to you

If you feel out of control, controlled by others or have a sense of hopelessness these are all thoughts I can help you with.

The same applies to how you’re acting if you’re eating too much, drinking too much, or binging on drugs.

I can help you take control.

Let’s take eating as an example.

You only need so many calories to replace those you burn off during the day.

Any more and you’re ultimately adding to your body’s fat.

And usually, you’re overeating because you’re stressed, depressed, anxious, low in self-esteem and looking for a dopamine hit.

You hang around the fridge, eat too much chocolate, and get a pie at the petrol station before you get home.

But with CBT and hypnosis, you can learn to be a calmer version of yourself.

Happier to be you.

And think your way out of the fridge, away from a line of coke or another hour on social media at 2am.

Basically, CBT and hypnosis let you take back control like Taylor Swift did.

You’re becoming your own best friend. You just need to find peace with yourself.

And I’ll help you get there.

Who am I?

I’m James Thomas. A Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist. A one-time heavy drinker and over-eater (I got to over 20 stone). I learnt to be calm.

I’m no multiplatinum artist, but I can happily live with who I am now.

I have rooms in Leeds, York, Louth and Lincoln.

Contact me at jamesthomas@thegentlemind.co.uk or call 07787563099.

There’s a calmer version of you. And together we can find it.

What is psychotherapy?
To answer what is psychotherapy? I’ll start by describing what exactly the words mean. To break it down the word ‘psycho’ comes from the Greek for “soul” or “mind”. And ‘therapy’ means “healing." Also from a Greek word. So what we’re talking about is a healing of your thinking. A coming to terms with why […]
