Hypnotherapy for procrastinators is hypnotherapy for time wasters.
Does this seem familiar?
You sit down to work. Five minutes later you’re checking emails, scrolling Instagram, making tea, or suddenly deciding now is the perfect time to reorganise a drawer.
It could be any one of us.
So why do intelligent, capable people waste time?
You often waste time because your brains are highly active. You over analyse, get paralysed by perfectionism, and prefer exploring complex ideas over executing simple, repetitive tasks.
So this isn’t poor planning on your part. It’s an emotional defence mechanism and an issue of over stimulation. Why is this the case?”Analysis paralysis. You can vividly imagine every potential risk and outcome. You’re an over thinker and it leads you to thinking that taking any action feels unsafe.
The "smart" trap. Instead of scrolling social media, you "waste" time reading, researching, or learning about unrelated topics. Because this feels productive and socially acceptable, you trick yourself. You believe you have to know more and disappear down a rabbit hole, rather than progressing toward your goal - your mindset is so geared toward continuous thought and exploration that the more pragmatic, unglamorous work of just "getting things done" doesn’t register.
Perfectionism. High standards often make the emotional cost of beginning a project feel overwhelming. When you know a task won't turn out perfect, it is much easier to avoid starting altogether. You haven’t the confidence and belief that good enough is enough.
Disillusionment. When you realise that systems and social structures around you are rewarding superficiality rather than genuine depth or effort, you consciously disengage and retreat into your own thoughts.
Hypnotherapy for procrastinators. Why does willpower fail?
What we’re looking at is not procrastination/time wasting as laziness — it’s unconscious avoidance.
Calling it time wasting is missing the point and beating yourself up unnecessarily.
If you take a deeper dive into how you’re thinking and acting you’ll see that your procrastination can stem from:
- Anxiety
- Fear of failure
- Fear of success
- Perfectionism
- Overwhelm
- Low self-worth
- Burnout
- Habit conditioning
In other words what I saying is that your unconscious mind is choosing short-term comfort over long-term reward. And it’s killing you.
So what can hypnotherapy for procrastinators do?
Leading on from the above I want to look at your unconscious behaviour. Why? Because looking at your ‘life hacks’, your productivity advice isn’t cutting it.
It’s easy to put in place:
- To-do lists
- Time blocking
- Apps
- Motivation videos
- “Just discipline yourself”
BUT these are looking at your conscious behaviour when the problem lives deep in your subconscious - and you can’t permanently out-organise an unconscious emotional pattern.
Procrastination. So, what’s really going on?
Do any of these signs below seem familiar?
- You delay important tasks repeatedly
- You feel guilty while procrastinating
- You’re productive for others but not yourself
- You wait until pressure becomes painful
- You over prepare instead of acting
- You distract yourself when work becomes emotionally uncomfortable.
These are all signs that procrastination is a thief of your time, but why?
What you and me are looking at is what lies behind your procrastination.
Typically procrastinators are holding onto to a thought that leaves them stuck in a pattern of behaviour.
For example your brain is telling you:
- You’re scared to try
- You’re scared of failure
- You’re afraid of being judged (you may well be)
- You fear that what you do won’t be good enough (perfectionism)
- You are clinging on to your ‘old ways’
- You repeatedly delay your important tasks
- You feel guilty while procrastinating - you know you shouldn’t
- Be productive for others but not yourself - you’re using them as an excuse
- You’ll wait until pressure becomes painful
- To over prepare instead of acting
- You need to distract yourself when work becomes emotionally uncomfortable
What we’re saying is that if we loosen the grip on what holds you back you can crack on. You need to. The clock is ticking
How hypnotherapy for procrastinators works
All hypnotherapy for procrastinators is is quite simply you and me creating a relaxed focused state for you.
And it’s in this state you’ll find you’re increasingly receptive to new ideas. A ‘re-wiring’ of your thinking as it were.
You’re letting me access your subconscious to change what has become your automatic behaviours.
In effect, we’re reducing your avoidance anxiety and increasing your focus on what you’d really like to be doing. It’s an installing of new behaviours and habits.
This means you’ve build an emotional safety around your work - you’ve improved your confidence and self-trust. You believe in yourself.
Common Myths About Hypnosis
“I’ll lose control”. No you won’t. That’s only in the films.
“Only weak-minded people can be hypnotised”. My work is to make people more strong minded - stop smoking, taking drugs, don’t be afraid to fly.
“Hypnosis is mind control”. You run your mind. It only work with your permission, otherwise we’re going nowhere.
“It’s stage entertainment”. It can be. True. But this is hypnosis as therapy not for entertainment. Certain aspects are similar, but I’m not going to get you to eat a raw onion or dance the funky chicken. It’s what’s known as clinical hypnotherapy as recommended by the NHS.
